And here we are in the process of setting up a center for scientific research so that the starting point for cooperation with Arab countries, which have appeared in recent interesting and clear space science in particular. Hoping to have our first shot to form Arab Space Agency. Space Education and Outreach Committee (SEOC) The Space Education and Outreach Committee (SEOC) scope will include all matters pertaining to the effects of space activities on the formal and informal education and outreach process and vice-versa. These include specific student activities and supervised youth experiments, the use for educational purposes of communications satellites, earth observation satellites; manned and unmanned spacecraft, and ground-based laboratories, the many educational techniques developed to motivate the learning of scientific and other disciplines, and the activities of groups intended to raise public awareness of the benefits of space activities. Center for Space Research (CSR) The Center for Space Research (CSR) conducts research in physics, astrophysics, space science, detector engineering, and related technology, and participates in various National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) flight missions. Specific areas of research include extragalactic astronomy and cosmology, galactic astronomy, the solar system and space plasma physics, and the space life sciences. Research conducted in CSR is reported by the departments of Physics, Earth Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences, Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Civil and Environmental Engineering. |
The users
The users of the center can be categorized as follows 1. depending on the period of participation on Permanent users : those who participate and take part in the center’s activities A long term basis and include both adults and children of different age groups . while the latter group features members of the local community , groups . while the latter group from across Amman and the rest of the Kingdom , the adult group features the workers and employees of the center as well as the researchers and amateur astronomers . Temporary users : these include both children and adults that arrive to the center on specific occasions to take parting specially held activities or to visit featured exhibits that are held for a certain period of time . This group can also feature regional and international visitors 2. depending on area of expertise Specialists : those are the users that would either benefit from the facilities provided at the center to aid in research to astronomy ( planetarium , observatory and media center ) Amateur astronomers : mainly visitors to the center on temporary basis interested in specially held events as well as the chance to benefit from the resources and facilities of the center . this group of users can feature individuals from the local community as well as visitors from different groups Earth scientists : this group features employees of the center in charge of supervising the different earth exhibits and galleries at various occasions . Students and researchers : visitors with a slight background in the fields of astronomy and earth sciences seeking further knowledge and research opportunities at the center . while the latter subgroup is more specialized students visiting either individually or in group trips Administrative staff : mainly in charge of administrative issues and are considered to be among the permanent users of the center General public : individuals with minimal or no background in astronomy visiting the center in order to gain further knowledge . this group might also include local , regional and international tourists Interpretation as a tool : in order for the visitors to fully benefit from the center’s facilities , one has to strongly consider interpretation as a tool for the display and presentation of different issues that the center addresses , whether dealing with earth as a dynamic planet or the information given to them more effectively and develop a more practical understanding of the different issues what is interpretation ? an educational activity aimed at revealing meaning and relationships through the use of original objects , interactive experiences and illustrative media rather than communicating through factual information a combination , in different amounts , of at least five components : an information service , a guiding service , an educational service, an entertainment service and an inspirational service . interpretation aims at giving people new understanding , insights . enthusiasms and interests in the filed , place or object on display . |
